A “Pupper’s” point of view
Volunteering with HAPPEE Hugs and Pups at UNC Chapel Hill with my dog, Delilah, is such a heartwarming and fulfilling experience. Delilah—my affectionate Irish Setter who loves to lean into people, sit in their laps, and soak up as much love and petting as she can get. She absolutely thrives in this environment! And watching her bring comfort to students is truly special.

One of my favorite parts of participating is the conversations with the students. It’s wonderful to hear about their goals, what they’re studying, and even what’s currently stressing them at school. Those moments of connection feel meaningful, especially when they open up and share stories and photos of their own pets waiting for them back home.
The best reward of all is seeing the smiles that spread across their faces the instant they spot the dogs. There is something so simple and powerful about the joy a furry companion can bring into a stressful day. Knowing that Delilah and I can offer even a small moment of relief or happiness makes the entire experience incredibly worthwhile.
Hugs and Pups is a true delight to be part of, and I’m grateful for every person Delilah and I get to meet!
